The city's august Ducal Palace provides fitting surroundings for the Marche's most important art collection. It contains a comprehensive collection of works by the region's major artists and well as paintings commissioned by the Dukes of Urbino during the 15th and 16th centuries.

The most important works include Piero della Francesca's Flagellation of Christ and Madonna of Senigallia , Raphael's La Muta , The Ideal City, attributed to Luciano Laurana, The Miracle of the Profanated Host by Paolo Uccelli and Titian's Last Supper and Resurrection.

Several rooms are dedicated to works by painters who gathered around the ducal court, including Joos van Ghent (known in Italy as Giusto di Gand), Pedro Berruguete, Giovanni Santi (Raphael's father), Luca Signorelli, Timoteo Viti, and Federico Barocci.

Many other works are by 14th and 15th century painters connected with the Marche, such as Giovanni Baronzio, Vittore Crivelli, Pietro Alemanno, Giovanni Bellini, Lorenzo Salimbeni and Allegretto Nuzi.

Much of the original interior of the palace remains, including several magnificent stucco ceilings and Duke Federico's tiny studiolo, intricately panelled with trompe l'oeil woodwork.
